The Town and The City Festival is a 2-day music and arts festival takes place in various event spaces, bars, cafes, and galleries throughout downtown Lowell, MA. The festival celebrates the spirit of Jack Kerouac in direct and indirect ways. It is named after Kerouac's earliest novel which was primarily set in this historic mill city. The Town and The City Festival is inspired by the creativity and exploration for which the author was so famously known and will present a diverse mix of musical genres and artistic disciplines to inspire discovery and to celebrate a love

Freda Love Smith is a writer, teacher, and retired indie rock drummer. Her recent memoir, I Quit Everything, explores addiction, intoxication, and the twilight of her musical career. Her first book, Red Velvet Underground, documents a year of cooking lessons with her son and reminisces about drumming with bands such as Blake Babies, Antenna, Mysteries of Life, Gentleman Caller, Some Girls, and Sunshine Boys.
She teaches at Northwestern University and Lesley University, reviews nonfiction for Booklist, and has published fiction and nonfiction in outlets including Dame Magazine, Lit Hub, Smokelong Quarterly, The North American Review, and Paste Magazine. She lives in Evanston, Illinois.

Dave Hill is one of those amazingly creative people, who seems to do everything all at once. He is a comedian, writer, actor, and musician. Since we don’t have all day, here are the highlights: Dave is a regular contributor to public radio’s This American Life and Live from Here with Chris Thile (formerly Prairie Home Companion). He is also the resident heavy metal expert on Malcolm Gladwell and Rick Rubin’s Broken Record podcast.
Dave has written for The New York Times, The Paris Review, Salon, GQ, and McSweeney’s, among other publications --
and is author of three books: Parking the Moose (2019 Doubleday Canada/Penguin Random House), Dave Hill Doesn’t Live Here Anymore (2016 Blue Rider Press), and Tasteful Nudes (2012 St. Martin’s Press). His fourth book, The Awesome Game: One Man's Incredible, Globe-Crushing Hockey Odyssey was released October 24, 2023.
Dave also plays guitar and sings in his own rock band, Valley Lodge, whose song “Go” is the theme song for HBO’s Last Week Tonight with John Oliver – as well as appearing TV shows such as, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and Full Frontal with Samantha Bee. There’s more, but we just ran out of
